Our Social Finance team empowers overlooked and underfunded nonprofits to write their own revenue story. We understand the limitations of a philanthropy-only approach within the nonprofit sector. Our innovative team seeks to create, test, and implement a new approach to revenue for nonprofits, particularly those between $1M and $5M in annual revenue or those who have received new and significant investments. We do this by serving as the revenue shop for nonprofits to respond to traditional philanthropic needs, earned income generation, and alternative methods of ensuring long-term financial sustainability.

Who You Are: If you possess a broad range of experience and knowledge within the social and business sectors, and are dissatisfied with the traditional funding models, this role is for you. Ideal candidates may have experience working in social enterprise, consulting, nonprofit development, or a small business.

We seek someone with the ability to tap their experiences within the philanthropic and/or social enterprise sector to adopt and implement the 20 Degrees approach to earned revenue with flexibility and openness. We are building a rocket ship here. Are you willing to go along for the journey?

Essential Responsibilities
Client Deliverables and Support (50%): you will work both directly with clients as well as operate behind the scenes.

  • Deliverable Creation: Whether it’s a fundraising plan or a business plan, you will support clients by creating and refining deliverables such as presentations, reports, analyses, core messaging, and mission-related sales or solicitation strategies.
  • Client engagement and facilitation: You will be a point of contact for clients (nonprofit executives and board members) as a facilitator, guide, and subject matter expert.

Market Research (20%): Conduct research on trends in competitive landscapes, philanthropy, nonprofit operations, and business opportunities to distill findings into actionable insights for colleagues and clients.

New Product Testing & Refinement (10%): You will serve as a validator and prototyper for emerging 20 Degrees products, tools, and offerings. You will help us ensure our new products are relevant, replicable, and reliable.

Project Coordination (10%): You will be responsible for project planning, maintaining project-related documentation throughout the length of engagement, and organizing various aspects of the project to ensure its success.

Team Contributions (10%)

  • Contribute to the culture of 20 Degrees focused on scarcity slaying, field building, anti-racism, irreverent optimism, and truth-telling.
  • Create connections across departments to contribute to the strong culture and to identify areas of collaboration.
  • Other duties as assigned.

The job is fast-paced and success will require an ability to diligently manage multiple project items at once with light supervision. Doing well in this job means meeting quality expectations while delivering on assigned projects, managing tasks, and helping to manage client relationships so projects are completed more efficiently and effectively.

Foundational Qualifications that Make You a Star

  • 5+ years of experience with nonprofits, small businesses, startups, or management consulting.
  • Broad experiences with the nonprofit or social sector with a focus or interest in revenue generation or social enterprise.
  • Strong market research, analytical research, and industry trend analysis experience.
  • Experience conceptualizing, creating, and presenting info decks, presentations, business tools, and briefs.
  • Capability or willingness to quickly get up to speed in the Google Suite, especially Google Slides, Sheets, and Docs.
  • Familiarity with or willingness to quickly get up to speed on project management tools like, Asana, or Trello.
  • Strong project management skills and demonstrated ability to maintain quality and integrity across multiple projects, priorities, and products.
  • Ability to collaborate within a remote-first culture, self-management skills with light supervision, and a self-starter.

  • Understanding the fundamentals of nonprofit management, fundraising/development or simply the realities of the philanthropic landscape.
  • Issue expertise in early childhood education, arts, workforce, youth development, and education areas of the nonprofit sector.
  • Volunteer experience with nonprofits.

What we bring to the table:
This salaried position is 100% virtual and full-time. There is potential to travel 5 – 10% with the expectation that you join an all-hands strategic team retreat in Washington, D.C. twice a year. 20 Degrees is open to anywhere in the United States, with a preference for Virginia, Maryland, or the District of Columbia. Willingness and ability to work within the Eastern Time Zone is necessary. Base salary ranges between $65,000 and $75,000, plus a performance-based bonus structure and profit share with generous benefits, based on experience.
